We didn't really want the weather to be the headline for the Prima Cup, but unfortunately fate provided monsoon conditions only Noah could have welcomed! Nonetheless, we were happy to welcome the Leicester Tigers and 11 visiting teams from all over Norfolk and Suffolk to the first of the annual Prima Cup fixtures. For those unfamiliar with this event, the Tigers run the competition and judge the participating teams not just on the score, which only accounts for 25% of the overall, but on the behaviour of the coaches, players and even the parents and supporters! It really was the worst of conditions (except perhaps for horizontal snow at Southwold....), and nothing saps the energy more than getting wet through with no real way of drying out between matches. So the competition ended slightly prematurely, with some of the teams making an early dash to get their kids back to warm showers and dry clothes.
The Diss boys and girls, some of whom have only been playing for 3 or 4 weeks, did exceptionally well against some stiff competition and did themselves, their coaches, their parents and the Club truly proud. We won't know how we've done until much later, but watch this space.
