The start was delayed due to weather conditions and to allow a little more of the frost to leave the pitch. The first 15 minutes were dominated by Newmarket but Diss started to play to the game plan and after a smart backs move Joe Jermy kicked through and ran on to collect the ball and score. 5-0
Diss forwards drove the ball up towards the Newmarket line with a series of pick and go moves which gave Ben Waters the chance to make a superb solo run to score when the ball was released to the backs. Ben converted for a 12 -0 lead.
There was a really good forwards battle on show and when Newmarket had the opportunity to pick up from a loose Diss ruck they scored to make it 12-5 at half time.
The second half was closely fought, it was a real battle of attrition in both the forwards and the backs. Drew Harris had another really good game and given the chance out on the wing he kicked ahead and with the Newmarket defence scrambling sprinted through to touchdown 17-5
Newmarket weren't finished and with the clock ticking down they broke through the Diss defence and scored. The game finished 17 -12
