Diss played host to Lowestoft & Yarmouth on this ideal autumn day. Diss already with pack players this were hit hard by the half term break, only able to field twelve players and having to ask for uncontested scrums, due to lack of experienced forwards. L & Y then loaned two players each team playing fourteen a side. L & Y as a team has improved over recent seasons, with Diss knowing they have a game on. Diss without a strong pack had to get the ball out wide and move the ball around to have any chance of winning this game.
The game progressed steady, to and fro for fifteen minutes. Diss got a breakthrough, George Jones ran a try into the corner, but failed to convert. Diss holding their in rucks and mauls. Tom Elkins was next with a run in for a try. L & Y suffered an injury and lost that player but claimed a player back leaving Diss with thirteen players, so they fought on. Next Nat strange ran a try under the posts for George to convert. L & Y pulled a score back with a ball out from a scrum and a dash under the posts. 17 - 5. Then Diss pulled the ball from a ruck and a pass out to James Webster to run the wing for a try. L & Y pulled another try back. 22 - 10. Miles Smith ran a try through into the corner for a try. Poor tackling from Diss allowed L & Y to get their third try. But Diss took the final score as Miles ran a try under the posts for George to convert. From a depleted team, a well executed and unexpected win. A good day at the office.
