Diss 64 L&Y 0
After a disappointing away visit to Hadleigh 3 weeks ago, a training match 2 weeks ago and last weeks cancelled match, Diss were keen to get 2014 started in the way 2013 finished. The first Cup game of the season was to be their opportunity.
Seven tries in the first half came from some very good team work, and consistent kicking saw five conversions going over, making it 45-0 at half time. After the post-Christmas fatigue, this was much more like the Diss of old.
Several substitutions at half time saw a further three scores, two converted in the second half and the game ended with Diss still attacking the opposition line.
L&Y never gave up and mounted some decent attacks of their own, spending a full ten minutes attacking the Diss line at one point. They had some very capable players indeed, stout defence kept them out however but they will have been disappointed not to have scored. They also defended well for long periods but superior Diss handling skills and perhaps better levels of fitness were the difference between the two teams.
Scorers: Joe Hegarty (3), Joe Boom (2), Luke Miller (2), Charlie Hay, Oscar Seaman and Luke Burridge. Conversions: Seaman (6), Burridge.
Men of the Match: Joe Boom and Charlie Hay.
